Jeff - Shortwave has a special meaning for me, because in the dark days (literally, too) of the collapse of the Soviet Union, it was the only means of "communication" with the outside world. I remember going to bed with our Radio by my side and trying to tune into something that I could understand. I also tried hard to learn English by listening to the BBC and the Voice of America. Although I called it "ancient" above, some parts of the world probably still rely on it as their only method to keep in touch with the outside.

Shortwave radio might be ancient, but as an amateur radio operator who plays on the shortwave bands, it brings me hours of joy.
