I have been reading a number of trader blogs recently trying to get a qualitative read on the mood hoping to find traces of capitulation. Unfortunately, the mood seems to be “hopeful.” As S&P500 approaches the November lows, VIX is actually half of where it was then. Growing up in an apartment building, we had a hallway that had four doors to four homes. My mother would always clean the entire hallway but for some reason our neighbors would only clean the small area between their own door and the hallway entrance. It would always puzzle and bother her why they only cleaned in front of their door. Did they think dust in other areas would not move? A few years later…

I have been working on a small writeup for a couple days but today I as watched the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearing, I decided to write a few thoughts instead. I recommend everyone watch this hearing but not from the perspective of what is being discussed.
