New proposal to use NIC number when obtaining TIN

A proposal to use the National Identity Card (NIC) as part of the process for obtaining a Tax Identification Number (TIN) during tax registration will be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers, State Minister of Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said. The Minister said that that this proposal is scheduled for submission to the Cabinet next week.

The plan includes adopting the NIC number as the TIN for individuals over the age of 18. Additionally, the State Minister disclosed that feedback on the proposal has been requested from six institutions, with four already having submitted their recommendations.
