The Meteorology Department has issued a severe weather warning for several provinces and districts in Sri Lanka. Heavy showers, exceeding 100 mm of rainfall, are expected in the Western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces, as well as in the Kandy district. These conditions are anticipated to persist over the coming days, affecting the South-Western part of the island.
Showers or thundershowers are forecasted intermittently in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western Provinces, along with the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara. Additionally, the Uva Province, Ampara, and Batticaloa districts may experience showers or thundershowers during the evening or night.
In addition to heavy rainfall, strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph are expected, particularly over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western Provinces.
