Reports Reveal Misuse of State Resources by Past Presidents – Shocking News
News Today: Misuse of state resources by past presidents unveiled in shocking reports
Reports from the Sri Lanka Air Force headquarters have revealed significant misuse of state resources by former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Maithripala Sirisena. Between 2005 and 2015, these past presidents utilized Air Force services under presidential privileges for domestic flights, raising concerns over the extensive use of public funds.
Mahinda Rajapaksa, who served as president from 2005 to 2015, took a staggering 978 flights to various destinations within the country. During his five-year tenure, Maithripala Sirisena also heavily relied on Air Force helicopters, taking 557 flights in total. The extensive use of these resources has brought both former presidents under scrutiny.
Rajapaksa’s flights covered a total distance of 131,277.17 kilometers. Comparatively, Sirisena surpassed Rajapaksa’s annual flight count with 111 flights per year, whereas Rajapaksa averaged 88 flights annually. This frequent use of Air Force helicopters for domestic travel by both leaders has sparked debates on the misuse of state resources.
The reports highlight the need for stricter regulations and transparency in the use of public funds for personal and official travel by government officials. As the nation grapples with economic challenges, the revelation of such extravagant use of state resources has fueled public outcry and demands for accountability.
This news underscores the importance of implementing stringent oversight mechanisms to prevent future misuse of state assets. The significant difference in the number of flights taken annually by the two former presidents further emphasizes the need for clear guidelines and limitations on the use of such privileges.
