News Today: New Parking System for Colombo

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has announced plans to introduce a new parking management system within Colombo city limits. According to CMC Deputy Director (Traffic and Road Design) Eng. Manjula Kularathna, the new system will assign one contractor to each designated area, replacing the current method where a contractor and an administrator are assigned to each road. This change aims to streamline parking management and enhance convenience for drivers using parking spaces within specific zones.

The new system, expected to be implemented within three months, will allow drivers to use the same parking ticket to park in multiple locations within an hour in the same zone, improving short-term parking convenience. Kularathna also mentioned that advanced technologies are anticipated to be integrated into the system in the future to further enhance vehicle parking services.

Under the current system, a parking ticket cannot be reused within the same zone for short-term parking. The new system will address this issue, making it easier for drivers to find and use parking spaces efficiently. This development is part of the CMC’s ongoing efforts to improve urban infrastructure and provide better services to the public.
