President Pledges National Land and Truth Commissions if Elected

News Today: Establishing National Land Commission and TRC

President Ranil Wickremesinghe, addressing a public rally in Jaffna, pledged to establish the National Land Commission and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) if re-elected. These commissions aim to address long-standing land disputes and the unresolved cases of disappeared persons, with Justice Nawaz spearheading efforts over the next five years. Wickremesinghe emphasized that issues in the north should not be seen solely as political, but developmental challenges must also be addressed to prevent the region from lagging behind as other provinces advance. He committed to resolving both political and development concerns in the north for long-term peace and progress.

The President also highlighted the importance of justice and reconciliation, affirming that the TRC would help heal wounds left by past conflicts. By focusing on these key initiatives, Wickremesinghe aims to create a pathway to development that equally supports all regions of the country, ensuring that the north is included in national progress.

In his speech, he concluded by stating, “We will resolve not only political issues in the north but development issues as well,” reiterating his vision for a unified and thriving Sri Lanka.
