National People’s Power (NPP) MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to appoint a new Prime Minister, following the resignation of Dinesh Gunawardena. The NPP is yet to decide on the candidate for Prime Minister. After the appointment, a limited cabinet will be selected to address the nation’s pressing issues.
Speaking to the media after President Dissanayake’s swearing-in ceremony, MP Amarasuriya emphasized the urgent need to address the country’s crisis, with the NPP having received a mandate from the people to enact immediate reforms.
She also mentioned that the new government aims to resolve economic and political challenges through well-planned strategies and efficient governance. The NPP remains committed to leading the country towards recovery by implementing programs that directly target the root causes of the crisis.
The cabinet’s limitation is seen as a strategic move to ensure swift and effective decision-making, reducing delays and focusing on key national concerns. The priority will be to stabilize the nation and restore confidence both locally and internationally.
