SLPP Confidently Prepares for General Election Without Alliances

News Today: SLPP Ready for General Election Without Forming Alliances

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, leader of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), announced that the party is prepared to contest the upcoming General Election independently, without forming alliances. Speaking at the SLPP headquarters in Battaramulla, Rajapaksa revealed that several political parties had approached him with proposals for alliances, but the SLPP declined.

During a media briefing following a meeting with the SLPP political committee, Rajapaksa emphasized that the party has already begun preparations for the election. The SLPP reviewed the results of the last election and discussed strategies for the upcoming General Election, aiming to regain support from the public.

Rajapaksa acknowledged the outcome of the recent Presidential election, stating that the SLPP respects the people’s verdict. He expressed confidence in the new President, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, but noted that the SLPP has yet to decide whether they will support him during the election.

Regarding requests to re-admit former party members, Rajapaksa stated that while many have asked to return, the SLPP will not recruit anyone involved in corruption.
