Severe Weather Impact: 118,210 People Affected

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has reported that 118,210 individuals across 13 districts have been affected by the recent severe weather in Sri Lanka. Gampaha District is the most impacted, with 68,672 individuals from 16,707 families affected. Two fatalities have occurred in Millaniya (Kalutara) and Kaduwela due to harsh weather conditions. Additionally, 225 houses have been partially damaged, and schools in both Gampaha and Colombo Districts have been closed.

The Meteorology Department has predicted continued showers and thundershowers in Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-western, and Northern provinces, with heavy showers above 75mm expected in certain areas. Landslide warnings are in effect for Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura Districts. Residents are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the weather is expected to worsen during the evening and night hours.
