News Today: Damitha Abeyratne Files Lawsuit Against Hesha Withanage

Actress Damitha Abeyratne has announced her intention to file a lawsuit against former Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Hesha Withanage. This legal move comes after her name was abruptly removed from the nomination list for the SJB’s Ratnapura District team ahead of the upcoming Parliamentary Election.

Damitha, who had been invited to contest by Hesha himself, arrived at the Ratnapura District Secretariat on October 11th to submit her nomination. To her surprise and disappointment, her name had been removed without prior notice.

She expressed her frustration outside the District Secretary’s Office, stating that she had extensive evidence, including voice recordings of her conversations with Hesha, confirming his role in her candidacy. According to Damitha, she had never specifically requested to contest from Ratnapura, but Hesha had suggested it, emphasizing the need for female representation in the district.

Damitha further shared that on the night of October 10th, she was informed that her name had been replaced. When she confronted Hesha, he denied involvement and invited her to Ratnapura for the nomination process, only for her to find out the truth the next day.

She has vowed to pursue legal action for the humiliation caused and urged the people of Ratnapura to consider such actions when casting their votes in the upcoming election.
