News Today: Luxurious cars worth Rs. 60 million confiscated from former Minister’s son-in-law
The Kandy Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau confiscated several luxurious vehicles worth Rs. 60 million from the residence of former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena’s son-in-law in Aniwatta, Kandy. The vehicles were seized after the Senior Superintendent of Police for the Kandy Division received credible information regarding the questionable legality of the vehicles.
Upon investigation, it was found that no one in the house could provide legal verification for the vehicles, leading to their confiscation. It has also come to light that the former Minister’s son-in-law was previously employed at the Ports Authority and was simultaneously running a car sale business in Mahaiyawa. Police suspect that these luxurious vehicles might have been illegally released from the port, and investigations are underway.
The vehicles will soon be handed over to the Government Analysts for further examination to determine their origin and legality. As the investigation continues, more details are expected to unfold, highlighting the need for tighter monitoring of such operations to prevent illegal activities.
This incident brings attention to the issue of illegally acquired assets and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to uncover such practices.
