News Today: NPP Secures Power in Elpitiya Pradeshiya
In a significant political victory, the National People’s Power (NPP) has successfully secured control of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha following the recent elections. Garnering an impressive 17,295 votes, NPP achieved a remarkable win, securing 15 seats in the local governing body. This outcome marks a pivotal moment for the NPP, solidifying its influence in the region.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), another prominent party in the elections, managed to secure 7,924 votes, translating into 6 seats across two electoral zones. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) followed with 3,597 votes, winning 3 seats in the Pradeshiya Sabha. Meanwhile, the People’s Alliance claimed 2 seats with 2,612 votes, and an Independent Group secured 2 seats by obtaining 2,568 votes.
Additionally, the People’s United Freedom Alliance and The National People’s Party each won 1 seat, with vote counts of 1,350 and 521, respectively.
Out of 55,643 eligible voters, a total of 36,825 participated in the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha Election, reflecting a voter turnout of approximately 66%. However, 520 votes were categorized as rejected votes, highlighting the importance of voter education and awareness in future elections.
