The President emphasized the importance of addressing citizens’ hardships while advancing Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
The President assured the IMF team of his government’s commitment to effective social spending, with a focus on combating child poverty, malnutrition, and supporting differently abled individuals. He pledged proactive measures to ensure efficient resource allocation, highlighting previous underutilization in social spending.
Governance and anti-corruption were central to the discussions, with the President reaffirming his administration’s dedication to transparency and accountability. He vowed to implement stringent laws to strengthen legislative and institutional frameworks.
The IMF delegation congratulated the President on his decisive electoral victory and expressed optimism about collaboration under his leadership. President Dissanayake emphasized that rebuilding public trust is crucial for the success of the IMF programme.
