Sri Lanka welcomed 120,961 tourists during the first 20 days of November, bringing total arrivals for 2024 to 1,741,676. This figure marks a significant increase compared to last year’s total of 1,487,303 visitors, showcasing Sri Lanka’s growing appeal as a global tourist destination.
India remains the top source market, contributing 26,717 visitors in November alone, representing 22.1% of the market share. Russia follows with 20,157 visitors (16.7%), while Germany and the United Kingdom brought in 9,444 (7.8%) and 7,715 (6.4%) tourists, respectively.
From January to November 20, India accounted for 349,690 arrivals, the Russian Federation 157,756, the United Kingdom 154,385, and Germany 113,687. China ranked fifth with 110,115 visitors, showcasing a relatively smaller share compared to other leading markets.
The increase in arrivals is attributed to the onset of the winter season, additional international flights, and targeted marketing campaigns. As Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its tourism sector, the industry’s contribution to the economy is expected to grow further.
These numbers underscore Sri Lanka’s potential as a year-round destination, offering diverse experiences for travelers worldwide.
