Former Colombo Crimes Division Director Arrested for Abduction Charges

News Today: Former Colombo Crimes Division Director Arrested for Abduction and Detention

Former Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) Director, ASP Neville de Silva, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over charges of abduction and aiding unlawful detention. The arrest occurred at the Police Field Force Headquarters following an investigation prompted by a complaint received in August 2023.

According to Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga, ASP Neville de Silva, while serving as the Director of CCD, allegedly acted partially during a probe, favoring a complainant, which led to his involvement in the unlawful detention case.

The accused ASP is scheduled to be produced before the Ratnapura Magistrate’s Court today as the CID continues its detailed investigation into the matter.

This high-profile arrest has raised questions regarding accountability within law enforcement and the misuse of authority. Citizens await further updates from the CID as the investigation progresses.
