News Today: President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s China visit focuses on trade growth, finalizing the Free Trade Agreement, and collaboration.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s upcoming visit to China aims to enhance Sri Lanka-China bilateral trade and expedite the signing of the long-awaited Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Indika Salgado, President Elect of the Sri Lanka-China Business Cooperation Council (SLCBCC), highlighted this at the Council’s 25th AGM, emphasizing the agreement’s role in opening new markets for SMEs and benefiting local manufacturers through improved raw material imports.
Salgado assured that the FTA would not harm Sri Lanka’s economy but instead drive economic growth by fostering collaboration in technology, agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism. Additionally, he stressed the importance of creating a positive perception of Sri Lanka to attract more Chinese travelers, addressing concerns arising from previous political issues.
Under new leadership, SLCBCC plans to lead a larger business delegation to the Canton Fair and strengthen ties with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, aiming to unlock new trade and investment opportunities. This visit marks a pivotal step in reinforcing Sri Lanka-China relations and fostering mutual economic prosperity.
