News Today: Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa unveils a growing list of politicians benefiting from the President’s Fund
Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa recently announced shocking revelations about the misuse of the President’s Fund by several politicians. Speaking at Parliament, Dr. Jayatissa disclosed a list of politicians who received financial benefits from the Fund between 2005 and 2024. This disclosure has sparked national outrage, as investigations reveal that many politicians—including Pradeshiya Sabha members, chairmen, Provincial Council members, and ministers—have received significant sums of money.
The Minister assured the public that an extended investigation is underway to identify more individuals who benefited during former president Chandrika Kumaratunga’s tenure. He emphasized that the investigation aims to uncover all instances of irregularities, adding, “Some politicians even received over Rs. 10 million through cash cheques in a single transaction, while ordinary citizens are restricted to receiving Rs. 500,000 in multiple installments.”
This controversy sheds light on long-standing disparities in how public funds are allocated. The Cabinet Spokesman has vowed to release further details and documentation to ensure transparency. This investigation marks a significant step toward addressing corruption and reinforcing accountability in Sri Lanka’s political landscape.
