News Today: Public Are Warriors on the Same Battlefield, Says President

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his 77th Independence Day address, emphasized that the public are warriors on the same battlefield in the quest for comprehensive economic, social, and cultural freedom.

“Collectively, we must persist in our struggle for freedom on behalf of this motherland,” he stated during the celebrations.

In his speech, the President highlighted the essential roles played by different sectors of society. Farmers and fishermen ensure food security, educators shape future generations, healthcare professionals protect well-being, and security forces uphold national safety. Additionally, manufacturing workers, IT professionals, tourism advocates, garment workers, and expatriates all contribute significantly to Sri Lanka’s development.

“To secure economic freedom, we must not succumb to weaknesses in the global economic system or be overwhelmed by its fluctuations. Instead, we must unite in our efforts for this motherland,” he asserted.

President Dissanayake stressed that economic liberation must not come at the cost of social and cultural freedom. The nation must remain steadfast in its commitment to progress, ensuring that every citizen plays a part in shaping a prosperous and self-reliant Sri Lanka.

As the country marks 77 years of independence, his message resonates with a call for unity, resilience, and unwavering determination to overcome challenges together.
