President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with Mike Sicilia, Executive Vice Chairman of Oracle Corporation, at the World Governments Summit in the UAE, emphasizing Sri Lanka’s digital future transformation through AI-driven cloud computing and fintech solutions.

The high-level discussion focused on the adoption of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to improve economic growth, e-governance, and digital services. Oracle expressed strong interest in supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards cloud-based governance and fintech innovations, making it a leader in South Asia’s digital economy.

Sri Lanka’s Digital Leap with Oracle Cloud & Fintech

President Dissanayake invited Oracle to establish a sovereign Oracle Cloud region in Sri Lanka, ensuring data sovereignty, regulatory compliance, and national security for e-governance applications. The President also proposed creating a Digital Transformation Hub at Colombo Port City, positioning Sri Lanka as South Asia’s AI and Cloud Hub.

To accelerate Sri Lanka’s digital economy, the discussions included plans for:

Cloud hosting for e-governance and national data systems
AI-driven technology adoption for public services
Oracle’s investment in cutting-edge cloud infrastructure

Oracle’s Mike Sicilia acknowledged the potential of Sri Lanka as a regional leader in AI-driven cloud solutions, fostering public-private partnerships and technology investments. He also agreed to send an expert team to Sri Lanka to kickstart the initiative.

President Dissanayake reiterated Sri Lanka’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies for governance efficiency, economic growth, and global competitiveness. With Oracle’s partnership, Sri Lanka aims to become a digital-first nation, driving technological advancements in fintech, AI, and cloud computing.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, and Governor of the Western Province, Hanif Yusoof.
