Sri Lanka has been ranked among the countries with the least terrorist threats, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2025. This prestigious ranking is based on extensive studies analyzing the global impact of terrorism in 2024.

According to the report, Burkina Faso has been identified as the country with the highest number of terrorist threats, followed by Pakistan in second place and Syria in third. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has made a remarkable improvement, ranking 100th on the list of countries with the lowest terrorism risks.

In 2023, Sri Lanka was ranked 36th, meaning the nation has made significant progress, advancing 64 places in just two years. The country has also been recognized as the most improved nation in the South Asian region in terms of reducing terrorism-related threats.

The Global Terrorism Index is compiled by the International Organization for Economics and Peace, analyzing terrorism’s impact on 163 countries, covering 99.7% of the world’s population. The index evaluates factors such as the frequency, intensity, and economic impact of terrorism.

Notably, Sri Lanka and Bhutan have been listed as the only two South Asian countries where no terrorist attacks have been reported in the past five years.
