News Today: Government to Increase Salaries from April 2025
The Sri Lankan Government has officially announced that salary increments for public sector employees will be implemented starting April 2025. The salary hike, which was proposed as part of the 2025 budget, aims to provide financial relief to government servants.
Official Confirmation & Early Salary Payments
The Government has confirmed that monthly salaries for public servants will be disbursed on April 10, earlier than usual, to accommodate the Sinhala Hindu New Year celebrations. This decision ensures that government employees receive their payments ahead of the festival season.
A circular detailing the salary increments and additional incentives will be issued on March 28, just a week after the budget for 2025 is passed on March 21.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s Budget Proposal
During the presentation of the 2025 budget on February 17, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his role as Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Minister, proposed significant revisions in salary structures. These include:
- Salary increments
- Enhanced incentives
- Increased gratuities for public servants
With the budget set to be passed on March 21, the Public Administration Ministry will oversee the implementation process, ensuring timely disbursement of funds to public sector employees.
