News Today: Sri Lanka petrol price reduction September 2025 update
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has officially announced a reduction in fuel prices, effective from midnight yesterday. This move comes as a relief to many vehicle owners and industries across Sri Lanka, who have been grappling with rising fuel costs over the past months.
According to the revised rates, Petrol Octane 92 has been reduced by Rs. 6, making the new price Rs. 299 per litre. Similarly, Lanka Super Diesel 4 Star Euro 4 received the biggest drop, reduced by Rs. 12, with the new rate set at Rs. 313 per litre. Meanwhile, Lanka Auto Diesel also saw a price cut of Rs. 6, lowering the cost to Rs. 283 per litre.
However, the CPC clarified that Petrol Octane 95 and Lanka Kerosene will remain unchanged. While the reduction may not seem drastic to some, it is expected to positively impact transportation services, goods delivery, and day-to-day commuting, offering small but significant relief to households and businesses.
Industry experts suggest that continued adjustments to fuel pricing will play a vital role in stabilizing Sri Lanka’s economy while easing the burden on the public. Motorists and logistics companies in particular are expected to benefit, as even minor price drops can accumulate into substantial cost savings over time.
