President Launches Jaffna Projects with Power Move in Stadium

News Today: Jaffna International Cricket Stadium development projects inaugurated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to launch a series of landmark development projects in Jaffna today, marking a significant step toward strengthening infrastructure, sports, and public services in the Northern Province.

The highlight of the program will be the commencement of construction on the long-awaited Jaffna International Cricket Stadium, a project that has been in discussion for many years. The stadium is expected to open new opportunities for local sports talent while attracting national and international cricket matches to Jaffna, boosting tourism and economic activity in the region.

According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), another key event will be the opening of the third phase of the Myliddy Fishery Harbour Development Project. This initiative includes vital facilities such as water supply, electricity, fuel, cold storage, net-mending centres, auction halls, and radio communication services. These upgrades are designed not only to benefit the Northern fishing community but also to provide essential services to fishing boats arriving from the Eastern and Southern provinces.

Following the harbour opening, President Dissanayake will address a public gathering at the site, highlighting the government’s commitment to regional development and integration.

In addition, the President will inaugurate the Jaffna Regional Office of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, located within the Jaffna District Secretariat premises. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the office aims to address the increasing demand for passports in the Northern Province, ensuring faster, more accessible services for residents.

The programme also includes the launch of an E-Library initiative at the Jaffna Public Library, which will allow people around the world to access the library’s rich collection online, preserving its cultural heritage while embracing digital transformation.

These projects collectively mark a new chapter in Jaffna’s development journey, paving the way for economic growth, social upliftment, and national unity.
