News Today: President urges Sri Lankans in Japan to invest in rebuilding Sri Lanka’s economy and support the nation’s progress.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on his state visit to Japan, urged Sri Lankans living there to confidently invest in rebuilding Sri Lanka. Addressing a large gathering at the Reiyukai Hall in Tokyo, he highlighted the nation’s progress in stabilising the economy, strengthening the rule of law, and fostering national unity.
The President stressed that no country can progress in isolation, pointing out that Sri Lanka has successfully balanced its diplomatic relations in the past year. He underscored that the Government’s focus is on stability, corruption-free governance, and building an efficient public service.
Emphasising inclusivity, President Dissanayake noted that 2024 was historically significant as no ethnic conflict had arisen, marking a new era of unity. He assured Sri Lankans abroad that the Government’s achievements include surpassing revenue targets, safeguarding the economy, and initiating major reforms such as digitalisation of all state services by next year.
The President also announced that the upcoming Budget would not introduce new taxes and would aim at gradually reducing existing tax burdens. Highlighting tourism, he revealed the target of attracting 4 million visitors and developing the industry into an $8 billion economy by 2030.
Calling on Sri Lankans in Japan to contribute to this journey, he urged them to invest in sectors such as agriculture, livestock, tourism, and infrastructure. He assured that the Government would provide all necessary facilities to support their contributions and ensure sustainable development.
President Dissanayake concluded by reaffirming his vision for a united, corruption-free, and economically stable Sri Lanka, built with the collective effort of citizens at home and abroad.
