News Today: Nominations of All 39 Presidential Candidates Accepted for Election

The Elections Commission has officially announced that the nominations of all 39 candidates for the 2024 Presidential election have been accepted. Despite three objections being raised during the nomination process, they were dismissed for failing to meet the relevant legal provisions.

Out of the 40 individuals who initially placed their deposits, 39 candidates successfully submitted their nominations today at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya. The nomination process concluded at 11:00 a.m. without any major disruptions.

With the acceptance of these nominations, the stage is set for the Presidential election to proceed as scheduled on September 21st, 2024. Voting will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., during which the citizens of Sri Lanka will cast their votes to elect the next President.
