News Today: Central Asia Forum in Colombo 2024: Sri Lanka’s strategic role explored

Sri Lanka is set to host the Central Asia Forum in Colombo today, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Geopolitical Cartographer. This forum aims to explore the strategic importance of Central Asia in Eurasian connectivity, highlighting its emerging role in new transport and logistics corridors. The event comprises two sessions focusing on the opportunities and challenges in strengthening economic ties between Sri Lanka and Central Asia.

With Sri Lanka’s recent decision to establish a resident diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan and conduct Foreign Office consultations with Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan, the forum marks a significant step in bolstering bilateral relations. The forum will feature prominent speakers, including Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aruni Wijewardane, who will deliver the opening remarks, and Minister of Foreign Affairs M U M Ali Sabry, who will address Sri Lanka’s priorities in the region.

The event will bring together policymakers, thought leaders, businesspersons, and experts like Ambassador Doulat Kuanyshev, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, and Erik Solheim, International Advisory Council Member, Geopolitical Cartographer. The discussions will provide valuable insights into the potential for mutual growth and prosperity between Sri Lanka and Central Asia.
