Five Million New Passports Ordered with Enhanced Security
News Today: Five million new passports to be issued in Sri Lanka to ease congestion
The Department of Immigration has announced that five million new passports with advanced security measures are set to arrive in Sri Lanka. By September 15th, 50,000 passports will be received, helping reduce the current congestion. Until then, passport issuance will be limited to 1,000 daily. This is due to the ongoing shortage of blank passports, which the Department highlighted last month.
Citizens have been urged to only apply for passports in urgent cases. Additionally, the Department has partnered with an international firm to introduce electronic passports, which will enhance security and efficiency. These developments aim to resolve the ongoing challenges in the passport issuing process.
