Flights and trains delayed as Delhi faces second day of disruption due to fog

For the second consecutive day on Monday, flight and train services faced disruptions in India’s capital, New Delhi, due to dense fog and cold weather affecting large parts of the northern region.

On Sunday, more than 100 flights experienced delays in Delhi, but intermittent flight operations resumed on Monday morning, as confirmed by an unnamed airport official. According to data from aviation website Flightradar24, at least 168 departing flights from Delhi were delayed, and 56 flights were canceled on Monday morning.

Furthermore, according to news agency ANI, at least 18 trains bound for Delhi from various parts of the country faced delays due to the dense fog, as reported in a railway document.

The country’s weather office had forecasted dense fog and a cold wave for New Delhi on Monday, with even ‘very dense fog’ expected on Tuesday, along with a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, dense fog caused the suspension of operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the city from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. as stated by the airport official.
