Powerful Move: Illegally Imported Luxury Vehicles Surrendered
News Today: Owners Surrender Illegally Imported Luxury Vehicles to Bribery Commission
The owners of two luxury vehicles, illegally imported into Sri Lanka, have surrendered them to the Intelligence Investigation Unit of the Bribery Commission. This action follows an order from the Colombo Chief Magistrate and is part of a broader investigation into the illegal importation of luxury vehicles.
The ongoing investigation has uncovered the illegal importation of 112 luxury vehicles, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs. 7 billion to the country. The Bribery Commission has been actively pursuing these cases, with significant developments in recent weeks.
Previously, the Bribery Commission was ordered to seize seven luxury vehicles, valued at Rs. 400 million, which had been illegally imported between 2018 and 2024. Last week, Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage directed the Customs Director and the current owners of these vehicles to hand them over to the Bribery Commission by August 13.
The Bribery Commission has announced that the two seized vehicles will be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on August 23 for court proceedings. This case highlights the ongoing efforts to crack down on corruption and illegal activities that have caused significant financial harm to the country.
