Israeli Airstrike Kills Emergency Workers in Lebanon Amid Tensions
News Today: Lebanon Condemns Israeli Airstrike Killing Emergency Worker
An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon has resulted in the deaths of three emergency workers and the injury of two others, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health. The attack took place in Froun, Nabatieh district, as the workers were attempting to extinguish a fire. This was the second airstrike targeting ambulance teams in 12 hours, with Lebanon condemning the action as a violation of international law.
While Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the strike as “a blatant violation of international laws,” the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) stated the attack “eliminated terrorists” from the Amal movement, a Hezbollah-affiliated Shia group. Amal confirmed two of its members were killed in the strike, describing them as performing their “humanitarian and national duty in defense of Lebanon.”
In response to the strike, Hezbollah launched “suicide drones” and missiles targeting IDF positions in northern Israel. However, the IDF reported no casualties. As tensions continue to rise, cross-border fire between Hezbollah and Israel remains a near-daily occurrence.
Lebanon’s Civil Defense director, Brigadier General Raymond Khattar, extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery to an injured emergency worker, Mohammad Amasha, currently undergoing surgery.
