NPP Condemns MPs’ Betrayal of Voters, Calls Out Political Crossovers

News Today: NPP criticizes MPs for betraying voters 2024 during rally in Kiribathgoda

The National People’s Power (NPP) has strongly criticized Members of Parliament who have switched allegiances, accusing them of betraying the trust of voters. NPP Executive Committee member and MP Vijitha Herath specifically targeted MPs from the Gampaha district, who, after receiving the highest preferential votes by promoting divisive ideologies, have now aligned themselves with SJB leader Sajith Premadasa. Addressing a rally in Kiribathgoda, Herath condemned this move as a blatant disrespect to the people of Gampaha.

He highlighted the worsening economic conditions, noting that the price of a litre of kerosene has surged from Rs. 80 to Rs. 202, and diesel from Rs. 108 to Rs. 317. Train fares have also increased, further burdening the public. Herath criticized parliamentarians who previously supported the SLPP but have now switched their support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He also pointed out the dilemma faced by a woman parliamentarian from Ratnapura, who struggles to align with any political faction due to conflicting loyalties. The NPP rally was part of the ongoing campaign for their Presidential candidate, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, emphasizing their commitment to addressing the grievances of the people.
