News Today: NPP to remove VAT and reduce power tariffs if elected

National People’s Power (NPP) Presidential Candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that under a future NPP government steps will be taken to remove the Value Added Tax (VAT) and other taxes imposed on food, health services, and education related material.

Speaking at a public rally in Galle he also said the power tariff will be reduced by one third in the NPP’s first budget.

Dissanayake said the NPP is confident of bringing down the cost of living within a short period of time after getting elected.

He further stated that the NPP has highlighted the reduction of power tariff in the recent proposal for a new electricity generation plan.

The NPP leader said other candidates are focusing on their personal interests rather than prioritising the welfare of the people.
