Enhance Water Quality: Clean Your Water Tanks Regularly
News Today: National Water Supply Requests Public to Clean and Maintain Water Collection Tanks
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has urged the public to clean and maintain their water collection tanks at least once every three months. Regular cleaning ensures that the tap water provided by the NWSDB remains of high quality, suitable even for direct consumption.
MP Ajith Mannapperuma, chairman of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Sustainable Development, highlighted the importance of this practice in a recent press conference. He emphasized that maintaining water tanks is crucial for the health and safety of the community.
The chairman of the NWSDB pointed out that while the cost of providing a litre of tap water is only about 12 cents, many people are unaware of this and spend significantly more on mineral water. By regularly cleaning their water tanks, the public can save money and ensure a continuous supply of safe drinking water.
Incorporating this practice into household routines is a simple yet effective way to maintain water quality. The NWSDB continues to advocate for public awareness and education on the importance of proper water tank maintenance.
By adhering to these guidelines, communities can enjoy high-quality tap water and reduce their reliance on expensive alternatives. The NWSDB remains committed to providing safe and affordable water to all residents, emphasizing the need for public cooperation in maintaining water infrastructure.
