President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized the urgent need to rebuild public confidence in Sri Lanka’s judicial system. Speaking at a discussion held yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat with the Attorney General and officials from the Attorney General’s Department, the President outlined the critical role the department must play in achieving this objective.
President Dissanayake acknowledged the growing public perception of political interference in legal proceedings, stressing the need for transformative efforts to rebuild trust. He urged the Attorney General’s Department to prioritize fairness, equity, and transparency in all judicial processes.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, the President called for coordinated efforts between institutions involved in law enforcement. According to the President’s Media Division, these measures are aimed at ensuring effective implementation of the law and restoring the credibility of the justice system.
The President reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to avoiding any actions that could undermine public trust or expectations. “The people of this country deserve a legal system that upholds justice and fairness. We are taking active steps to re-establish the public’s faith in the judiciary,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, Public Security Ministry Secretary Ravi Seneviratne, Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe PC, and other senior officials.
This initiative aligns with the Government’s broader goal of ensuring that justice is not only served but is also seen to be served, fostering a renewed sense of trust and integrity in the nation’s legal framework.
