News Today: Opposition Leader calls for SJB support for development
At a series of political meetings held in the Ampara District, Sajith Premadasa urges support for SJB for development and progress, emphasizing that only the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has a practical and people-centered vision to uplift Sri Lanka.
Addressing a large crowd at a rally held at Akkaraipattu Athaullah Arangam, Premadasa called on citizens to vote for SJB if they desired true development and a more comfortable standard of living. The meeting was organized in support of S.M. Sameem, a candidate contesting the Akkaraipattu Municipal Council Elections.
“We have created programs that directly address the needs of the people in these areas,” Premadasa said. “From providing essential facilities to improving livelihoods, we have already proven that we care, even without being in power. When I was just the Opposition Leader, I came to these villages and extended help based on what I understood were your real needs.”
Premadasa also pointed out his consistent commitment to the district, highlighting that he had visited almost every part of it to deliver support—even in the absence of formal requests. His message was clear: SJB’s development plans are not just promises—they are already in motion.
Following the public address, Premadasa engaged in informal conversations with Muslim women in attendance, further showcasing his accessibility and personal engagement with the community. The event was also attended by SJB organizers and senior party members, all united in their campaign efforts for the upcoming Local Government Elections.
With Sri Lanka at a crossroads, the SJB leader positioned his party as the only viable alternative for progress, equity, and comfort for everyday citizens.
