Sri Lankans Abroad Can Now Obtain Personal Certificates Online

News Today: Sri Lankans abroad can now access personal certificates online through a new platform launched under the President’s digitalisation.

Under the digitalisation programme spearheaded by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Sri Lankans living overseas can now seamlessly obtain personal certificates like birth, marriage, and death certificates online. This initiative aims to simplify the process for expatriates, reducing delays and enhancing accessibility.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath launched a cutting-edge digital platform operated by the Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Ministry. The platform allows Sri Lankans abroad to request certificates through their respective embassies.

Currently, the pilot project is implemented in seven Sri Lankan missions, covering Japan, Qatar, Kuwait, Milan, Toronto, Melbourne, and Dubai. The Ministry plans to expand this service to all Sri Lankan embassies globally, ensuring complete coverage in the near future.

During the launch, Minister Herath remarked, “This milestone is the result of collaborative efforts by officials at the Presidential Secretariat, led by Senior Additional Secretary Roshan Gamage, and the Registrar General’s Department. Despite initial delays due to inadequate leadership, the determined political leadership over the last two months brought this project to life. This marks the first successful initiative under the President’s ambitious digitalisation agenda.”

The platform promises to empower Sri Lankans living abroad, enabling them to access crucial documents swiftly and conveniently. This step forward demonstrates the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve citizen services.
