Expressways Generate Massive Rs.134M Revenue in Just 3 Days

News Today: Sri Lanka’s expressways rake in Rs.134M revenue in 3 days

The Expressway Maintenance and Management Division has reported a substantial revenue boost from Sri Lanka’s expressway network, generating over Rs. 134 million in just three days, from April 11th to 13th, 2025. This remarkable income spike is attributed to the surge in holiday travel during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.

According to official data, a total of 387,000 vehicles utilized the expressways during the three-day period, with a significant concentration of traffic on April 11th and 12th. The first two days alone accounted for 297,736 vehicles, bringing in approximately Rs. 100 million in revenue. The remaining Rs. 34 million was collected on April 13th, when an additional 89,264 vehicles were recorded.

This increase in usage highlights the vital role of Sri Lanka’s expressway infrastructure in accommodating national travel demands, especially during festive seasons. Officials stated that the efficient flow of traffic and improved toll collection systems contributed to the smooth functioning of the expressways and the high revenue intake.
