Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader files FR petition over electricity tariffs

Sri Lanka’s Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition with the Supreme Court, seeking an order to reduce the current electricity tariffs.

The petition targets a group of respondents comprising the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), the Minister of Power and Energy, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy.

The move comes in the wake of growing concerns over the economic impact of the existing electricity pricing structure.
