State Minister’s Private Secretary Arrested in Rs.1.5 Million Bribery Scandal

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABoC) announced the arrest of the Private Secretary to State Minister S. Viyalendiran and another political activist for soliciting bribes worth Rs.1.5 million. The arrests were made following a complaint by a businessman from Polonnaruwa. The suspects allegedly demanded the bribe to facilitate the issuance of a permit from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau. The Private Secretary was apprehended at the State Minister’s office in Batticaloa, while the political activist was arrested near a state bank in the same city. The suspects are set to be produced in court.
