India-Sri Lanka Ferry Services Set for Resumption: A Boost for Bilateral Ties

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, has voiced optimism for the prompt resumption of the Nagapattinam – Kankesanthurai (KKS) ferry service within the upcoming weeks. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to restart ferry operations between Talaimannar and Rameswaram.

During his visit to the KKS Port and Talaimannar Pier, High Commissioner Jha emphasized the importance of swiftly reinstating the ferry connections between the two nations.

From February 15 to 17, High Commissioner Jha conducted his inaugural official trip to the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. This visit showcased the enduring and multifaceted partnership between the two countries, highlighting India’s dedication to enhancing socio-economic and cultural relations with the Northern Province, as per the High Commission’s release.

A significant focus of the visit was on promoting connectivity projects, a key aspect of the bilateral economic cooperation vision document released in July 2023. High Commissioner Jha also sought ways to improve air links, including infrastructure upgrades at Palaly Airport.
