40 Civilians Killed in Gaza Airstrikes Amid Humanitarian Crisis
News Today: 40 Innocent Civilians Killed in Gaza Airstrikes, Alleges Hamas
At least 40 innocent civilians were killed in southern Gaza and dozens more injured in Israeli airstrikes on a designated humanitarian zone, according to Hamas’s Civil Defence authority. The strikes targeted an area in Khan Younis, creating deep craters and causing severe destruction. Local residents reported that tents housing displaced people were hit, burying many under the rubble.
An Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson claimed that the operation was aimed at a Hamas command centre, stating that steps were taken to mitigate civilian casualties. However, Hamas rejected these allegations, calling the claim of militant presence “blatant lies.”
Eyewitnesses reported explosions shortly after midnight, and volunteers rushed to the scene to rescue trapped civilians. Unverified videos showed people digging with their hands to free those buried beneath the sand.
Israel’s military operation began after a Hamas attack on southern Israel in October, which killed 1,200 people. Since then, over 40,900 people have lost their lives in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. The airstrikes have worsened the humanitarian situation, with thousands of displaced Palestinians fleeing to Khan Younis.
