News Today: Ambewela Farms achieves daily production of 62,000 litres of milk, showcasing sustainable practices and innovation.
Ambewela Farms, operated by Lanka Milk Foods PLC, has reached a remarkable milestone by producing 62,000 litres of milk daily from a single source. Starting with just 3,000 litres in 2001, the farm now contributes 20 million litres annually to Sri Lanka’s milk supply. This achievement reflects years of investment, innovative practices, and relentless dedication.
Key to this success is the 2019 modernization initiative, which introduced automated dairy housing and milking systems through a Rs. 5 billion investment. Advanced breeding programs using globally renowned genetics have led to high-yielding cows producing 12,000 litres per lactation cycle. Precision feeding systems, guided by international nutritionists, and purpose-bred grass varieties further sustain these yields.
With an average daily output of 40 litres per cow, Ambewela exemplifies the potential of combining advanced technology with local expertise. General Manager Farms, Sarath Bandara, emphasized the importance of global collaboration, stating, “We’ve set a new standard for dairy production in Sri Lanka while supporting national self-sufficiency.”
Ambewela Farms also empowers local farmers by providing high-quality offspring and sharing best practices, fostering efficiency, and enhancing food security across Sri Lanka’s dairy industry. This milestone showcases the transformative power of sustainable farming practices in driving industry growth and national progress.
