A grand ceremony will be held today to commemorate the 50th anniversary of priestly ordination of Colombo Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. This special celebration will take place at the official residence of the Archbishop of Colombo, under the esteemed patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

This historic milestone recognizes five decades of dedicated spiritual service by Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, who has been a prominent figure in Sri Lanka’s religious and social landscape. In attendance will be several distinguished guests, including Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, other Government ministers, ambassadors, as well as tri‑service commanders and the Inspector General of Police. Leaders from various religious faiths will also join the event, reflecting the Cardinal’s role in promoting interfaith harmony and peace.

In view of this high‑profile occasion, the Police Media Spokesperson’s office announced special traffic arrangements. Specifically, heavy vehicles will be restricted from entering several roads within the Borella Police Division today to ensure security and smooth flow of traffic.

Earlier, on June 29, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith officially completed 50 years of priesthood. To mark this sacred milestone, a thanksgiving service was held at the historic St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena on June 30, attended by clergy, devotees, and well‑wishers who gathered to honour his remarkable journey.

The Archbishop’s half‑century of service has been recognized for its commitment to faith, community welfare, and national unity. The ceremony today stands as a tribute to his unwavering dedication to the Catholic Church and the people of Sri Lanka.
