Catholic Bishops Warn Public Against Fake Bishops

News Today: Catholic Bishops Conference addresses fake news about fake bishops in Sri Lanka

The Catholic Bishops Conference in Sri Lanka has cautioned the public against fake news about so-called Catholic Bishops. In a recent statement, the Conference clarified that Mr. Jerome Fernando is not recognized as a Bishop of the Catholic Church.

According to Rev. J. D. Anthony Jayakody, Secretary General of the Bishops Conference, Jerome Fernando lacks official apostolic succession, a key criterion for Catholic Bishops. Apostolic succession ensures that every Catholic Bishop is a legitimate successor to Jesus Christ’s apostles.

The statement further emphasized that Catholic Bishops are direct successors to eleven of the apostles, with Apostle Peter holding a unique position as the head of the apostles. The Catholic Church urges the faithful to remain vigilant and not fall victim to false claims.

This reminder from the Bishops Conference serves to uphold the integrity of the Church and prevent the spread of misinformation about its leadership.
