CEB Set to Submit Revised Electricity Tariff Proposals Next Week

News Today: CEB announces new proposals to reduce electricity tariff for approval.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced that proposals to reduce electricity tariffs are expected to be submitted next week to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL). CEB spokesperson Dhanushka Parakramasinghe explained that initial proposals for tariff reductions had already been presented to the PUCSL, but revisions were requested, necessitating a resubmission by November 08.

However, the CEB sought an additional two weeks to finalize necessary adjustments and update calculations in line with PUCSL’s requirements. The revised proposals are now on track to be delivered next week, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on consumers by proposing lower electricity rates. This tariff reduction proposal reflects CEB’s commitment to providing more affordable power solutions amidst rising living costs and increasing demand.

Parakramasinghe stated that the CEB is focused on ensuring these proposals meet regulatory standards and address PUCSL’s feedback, ensuring that the revised tariff plans are realistic and financially sustainable. This proposal, if approved, is expected to provide significant relief to consumers and contribute to sustainable energy solutions for Sri Lanka.

The anticipated reduction in electricity tariffs aligns with national goals of energy affordability and resource optimization. By re-evaluating electricity costs and presenting data-driven proposals, the CEB hopes to balance affordability with operational viability, benefiting citizens while supporting economic growth.
