CEB workers threatens strike action, unless Bill withdrawn

The Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union have threatened Sri Lanka’s Power and Energy Minister to withdraw a bill to restructure the state-owned Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Chief Secretary of the union Ranjan Jayalal stated that their Union will launch a three day protest with workers gathering at the Parliament, unless the Minister of Power and Energy withdraws the bill promptly.

“The Minister wants to sell the CEB off together with the President Ranil. If the bill is passed arbitrarily, CEB workers will unite and launch strike action,” Jayalal said.

The trade unions also challenged the subject minister to present the bill in Parliament, on which day the employees of the CEB will gather at the Parliament, he said.
