Shocking CID Arrest: Police Officer Helped Harak Kata

News Today: Police Constable Arrested for Assisting Underworld Criminal Harak Kata

In a shocking revelation, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a Police Special Task Force constable for allegedly aiding notorious underworld criminal and drug trafficker ‘Harak Kata’, who is currently being held at Tangalle Old Prison under the supervision of the Counter-Terrorism and Investigation Division.

The constable is accused of providing a mobile phone to Harak Kata during his prison security duty. A surprise search by the CID on April 25 led to the discovery of the mobile device inside the high-security facility. The phone, though found without a SIM card, was sent to the CID’s Digital Forensic Science Laboratory, where a detailed analysis revealed that five different SIM cards had been used in the phone over time.

Investigators found that one of the SIM cards belonged to the constable himself, confirming that he not only used the phone but later handed it over to the underworld figure. Further findings indicate that Harak Kata made numerous phone calls using the other four SIM cards, raising serious concerns about potential external criminal communications from within the prison walls.

According to a senior Police officer, calls made by Harak Kata reached various individuals who are now under investigation. Authorities are currently trying to determine whether the constable provided the mobile phone in exchange for money or another favor.

This incident has intensified calls for stronger internal security and screening processes within Sri Lankan detention centers, especially when handling high-risk criminals. The CID is continuing investigations, and more arrests could follow as links to the broader criminal network emerge.
