State Finance Minister Ranjith Siyamabalapitiya

Dedicated counters for TIN registration at Divisional Secretariats

The Finance Ministry has mandated relevant officials to establish dedicated counters at all Divisional Secretariats to help public register for their Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) as per the new regulation which requires individuals aged 18 and above to open tax files. State Minister of Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, has further instructed the implementation of similar counters in key locations such as State Banks, the Department for the Registration of Persons, and the Department of Motor Traffic.

These directives were issued during a meeting with representatives from the Inland Revenue Department, State Administration, and the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) to enhance TIN issuance activities. The State Minister emphasized the need for all Divisional Secretariats to offer necessary facilities to the public.

Expressing the desire for an efficient TIN issuance process, akin to the previous QR code issuance for fuel, the Minister highlighted the importance of streamlining the current online registration application form and reducing the processing time to less than five days.
