Deshabandu Tennakoon Appointed 36th Inspector General of Police
Deshabandu Tennakoon officially took on the role of Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the police headquarters, following his appointment by President Ranil Wickremesinghe as Sri Lanka’s 36th IGP on February 26.
Tennakoon, who was born in 1971, embarked on his policing career in 1998, starting as an apprentice Assistant Superintendent of Police. He is a graduate of the University of Colombo with a Bachelor’s degree and also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Kelaniya.
Before stepping into his latest position, Tennakoon held the title of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG), overseeing the Western Province.
